Jeff Phalen’s earliest childhood memories consist of going to work with his dad, Bob Phalen, who was considered one of the top farriers in the country. Jeff was 18 years old when he started officially working for his father. Working for Bob meant working at a different level than most people. Their day began before the sun rose and they often worked six days a week. Bob’s style of horseshoeing was balance, symmetry, kindness, customer service, and detail. By the age of 21 Jeff had established himself as a stand-out farrier whose skills had him flying around the country shoeing the nation’s top horses. At that time, no other young farrier had achieved that acclaim. However, Jeff humbly admits his success was due to the knowledge his father passed down to him.

After about 10 years of working alongside his father, Jeff branched out on his own and built a full-time farrier business. As demand for his services grew, he relocated to Northern California, where he continues to provide exceptional hoof care to horses at every level. Over the years, Jeff has shod horses for some of the world’s most accomplished riders, including Olympians and Grand Prix champions.

While the highlights of his career include working on some of the sport’s most celebrated horses, Jeff finds the greatest satisfaction in serving the trainers, riders, and horses he has worked with locally for decades. For him, success is not only measured by world-class achievements, but also by the lasting relationships and trust built through consistency, care, and dedication.
